Third edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook: implications for the future implementation of the Convention

The fourth addition of Global Biodiversity Outlook is now available in Japanese, courtesy of the Nature Conservation Bureau of Japan's Ministry of the Environment. This brings to eight the number of languages in which the mid-term assessment of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 is available.

The fourth Global Environment Outlook (GEO-4) assessment report is being launched by UNEP on 25 October. GEO-4 addresses the key challenges facing our planet, including the loss of biodiversity, that require policy attention and makes recommendations for decision-makers to act. The Executive Secretary has provided a message welcoming the culmination of this important work.

The first draft of Global Biodiversity Outlook 3 is now available for peer review until 1 October 2009. Reviewers encountering difficulty in accessing the document can request that an electronic copy be sent to them directly by sending an email to GBO3@cbd.int.

The ASEAN Biodiversity Outlook second edition was recently endorsed by the ASEAN Working Group on Nature Conservation and Biodiversity.
