The Trondheim Conferences on Biodiversity have since 1993 worked to strengthen CBD’s knowledge base. The fifth conference on 29 October – 2 November 2007 looked at “Ecosystems and people - biodiversity for development – the road to 2010 and beyond”, and brought together some 250 participants, comprising scientists, managers, policy advisors, and organisation representatives from 75 countries. The Conference was hosted by the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment together with UNEP and the CBD Secretariat. The conference chairman Peter Schei will at the side event present the recommendations and conclusions from the conference, including its “Message to Bali” on the need for interaction between the biodiversity and climate change agendas.
