Side Event
“ABS SPOKEN HERE?" - NEW EFFORTS FOR GETTING THE MESSAGE ACROSS
Organizer
UNEP, ABS-Capacity Development Initiative for Africa and CBD Secretariat
Date and Time
7 April 2009 13:15 - 14:45
Meeting
Seventh meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Access and Benefit-sharing (WGABS 7)
This side event will look at some of the challenges in communicating ABS: · Why is it that, 17 years after Rio, ABS still means "Anti-lock Braking System" to most people? · How to catch the attention of policy makers and administrators, to get their support for ABS? · What can be done to make non-experts understand and support the cause of ABS? These and similar questions will be discussed in this session. Outcomes and recommendations of the Africa regional workshop on ‘ABS and Communications’ will be presented, with some of the participants (ABS and communication experts) joining us in the discussions. Corresponding to the issue at hand - communication - this will be an interactive event with plenty of opportunities for questions, comments and discussion for "providers" and "users" of ABS communication.
