Side Event
Exploring biodiversity co-benefits of climate change mitigation measures: Bringing the CBD and UNFCCC agendas closer together
Organizer
German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation
Date and Time
10 May 2010 13:15 - 14:45
Through the implementation of climate change mitigation measures it is likely that co-benefits, such as biodiversity conservation and the maintenance of ecosystem services, can be gained in addition to emission reductions. Jointly organised by BfN, the LifeWeb Initiative and UNEP-WCMC, this side-event will highlight tools to support countries planning to implement climate change mitigation measures while simultaneously securing co-benefits. Using these planning tools can help to identify and enhance the contribution made by protected areas towards climate change mitigation and to achieve national conservation objectives. In addition, the approach helps bringing the agendas of the CBD and the UNFCCC closer together.
