Workshop on the Implementation of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation

<br>The Purpose of the workshop is two fold:<br> - To provide an interactive forum for parties and regional initiatives to deliberate on the ways and means for supporting national parties in the implementation of the strategy. <br> - To provide a platform for the relevant regional and international stakeholders to support and promote the implementation of the strategy through the Global Partnership for Plant Conservation, in collaboration with the SCBD and GSPC Coordination Mechanism. <br><br> The Workshop on the GSPC will be chaired by Prof. Oteng Yeboah, CBD SBSTTA Chair and Director, CSIR, Ghana. A scene setting presentation will be made by Prof. Brian Huntley, Director of the National Botanical Institute, South Africa and Project Leader of the GEF funded Southern Africa Botanical Network (SABONET); Dr. Bian Tan, South East Asia Network for Botanic Gardens, Singapore and Dr. Abu Zinada, Chair, Arabian Plant Specialist Group and Head, National Commission for Wildlife Conservation and Development , Saudi Arabia. Also part of the discussion will be a panel consisting of representatives of institutions that have led the stakeholder consultations including FAO, IPGRI, BGCI, GISP, Plantlife International, WWF, IUCN, UNEP-WCMC, CITES and People and Plants International. <br><br> At the end of the sessions, a brief ceremony to launch the Global Partnership for Plant Conservation will be held, hosted by SCBD and BGCI.
