Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10)

This side event is proposed in acknowledgement of the key role that local authorities play in assisting the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in achieving the objectives of the CBD, and their potential for vastly increased and facilitated involvement. The implementation of the CBD objectives on the ground by local authorities and their partners will be demonstrated, with a strong focus on the links between biodiversity and other elements of sustainability. Examples will be presented by leading local authorities from around the world, as will the activities of initiatives supporting and augmenting this important work, including that of ICLEI and IUCN’s Local Action for Biodiversity (LAB) Programme and the Global Partnership on Cities and Biodiversity.
