A Global System For Research And Development On Genetic Resources. Researchers, Industry, governments, indigenous peoples and NGOs are preparing for the introduction of the Nagoya Protocol. The updated ABS-MT has been extensively revised to assist these providers and users of genetic resources and its associated traditional knowledge to prepare for the introduction of the Protocol and its domestic implementation across the range of ratifying countries. The new, digital, edition of the ABS–MT builds on its role as a best practice standard and as a practical ‘how to’ handbook on ABS. It incorporates additional standards and provides guidance and detailed explanations of the Protocol. There is particular advice for governments as they prepare to meet their new responsibilities under the Protocol consider how to seize the opportunities that the Protocol creates. Geoff Burton and Jorge Cabrera will introduce these changes and explain the support the expanded MT provides. This will be followed by a panel discussion. Audience and panellists will be invited to offer feedback on the Management Tool and its use. In particular, the organisers will welcome further suggestions on new ways the MT can be introduced to users and how it may be recognised as a key instrument in the implementation of the Protocol. And join us in the launch of the new digital edition of the ABS–MT.
