Meeting
Eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 11)
This three day workshop aims to establish a framework and action plan to systematically map human relationships to nature and biodiversity. This will provide tools for use by policy makers at community, national and international level, in various important areas. Through increased understanding of the diverse approaches to human relationships with nature and environmental ethics, and to world views of nature, the global resources for teaching about biodiversity will be enhanced. The project will try to define concepts, identify sample programs and identify good practices in environmental ethics teaching, as well as to encourage communication and collaboration through the sharing of diverse experiences. From the evaluation of current practices the project will build a conceptual framework for understanding the nature of environmental ethics teaching and learning as we approach the end of the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. It will provide opportunities for networking for interest to policy makers and indigenous communities, and teachers. Although the morning sessions are open to many persons, the 3 afternoon training sessions will be provided for 50 participants preselected from applicants who wish to benefit from personalized expertise and training.
