Meeting
Eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 11)
Increasing understanding and willingness of young people to act for biodiversity contributes to the first Aichi Biodiversity Target: “By 2020, at the latest, people are aware of the values of biodiversity and the steps they can take to conserve and use it sustainably”. The aim of this event is to build involvement in the global Green Wave initiative promoted by the CBD Secretariat and the Hand Print initiative that involves schools all across India. It will introduce activities undertaken by partner organizations – in particular in Japan and by OISCA International – to involve children and youth in the Green Wave celebrations each year on the International Day for Biological Diversity in 2011 and 2012. It will introduce the Hand Print project of India that helps measure positive actions that make the world more sustainable, with a view to launching a global partnership. It will also provide opportunity to introduce other national and international outreach activities targeting children and youth to help build synergies and cooperation among them.
