Date and Time

Meeting
Twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity
The Global Biodiversity Outlook-4 shows that if the world stays on its current development path, pressures on biodiversity will continue to increase in the coming years, and the state of biodiversity will decline further. To provide better insight into how the pressures on and underlying causes of biodiversity loss can be addressed, this side event presents the outcomes of one of the supporting studies of GBO-4 that focuses on the possible contribution of key economic sectors to halt biodiversity loss and enhance the sustainable use of natural resources. The choice for a sectoral perspective is motivated by the fact that the future of the world’s biodiversity is largely shaped by the way in which worldwide food, energy and water systems are organized. In the side event the potential for biodiversity friendly production and nature based strategies will be presented and the governance challenge of getting biodiversity concerns embedded (mainstreamed) into production sectors will be discussed.
