Meeting
Twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity
For the implementation of REDD+, biodiversity is considered as one of the key elements of safeguards. Biodiversity is also highly related to both ecosystem and social services from tropical forests. Practical, effective, and efficient criteria and indicators to secure biodiversity are called for by developing countries. In this event, scientists and practitioners will present ongoing discussions on REDD+ safeguards, opportunities and risks in developing criteria and indicators, focusing on biodiversity from practical and scientific viewpoints. The discussions also include how biodiversity should be considered in the context of REDD+ implementation. Dr. Ian Thompson (Canadian Forest Service), Dr. Toru Nakashizuka (University of Tohoku), Mr. Yoji Natori (Conservation International Japan), Dr. Kimiko Okabe (FFPRI) and other experts will make presentations.
