National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) are the principal instruments for implementing the CBD at the national level. Aichi Biodiversity Target 17 states that by 2015, each Party has developed, adopted as a policy instrument and has commenced implementing an effective, participatory and updated NBSAP. This side event will address the latest advancements towards fulfilling NBSAPs. It will also reflect, through speakers from countries representing different regions, on the process of developing such NBSAPs, in terms of public participation and their chances for implementation on the ground considering all those sectors whose activities can have an impact (positive and negative) on biodiversity.
