Twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity
* Background and purpose: To make a diagnosis of the values of biodiversity in Cheonsu bay which constitutes the East-Asian Australasian Flyway and serves as a large stop-over and wintering ground for migratory water birds including Hooded Crane, Oriental White-stork, Baikal Teal etc. and also to provide sustainable conservation and management directions for the ecosystem in connection with local cultures. * Main contents: Present the status and importance of the wild bird habitat of Cheonsu bay; present the status of local cultures in relation to the migratory water birds of Cheonsu bay and ways to connect them with the enhancement of biodiversity; and offer field trips to major areas after the side event. * Expected effect: Promote the significance of Cheonsu bay across the international community; enhance sub-region biodiversity by designating Cheonsu bay as an international protected area; and encourage effective and sustainable management of the protected area in connection with local cultures.
