In paragraph 5 of decision VII/12 on sustainable use, the Conference of the Parties requested the Executive Secretary to convene a series of technical expert workshops on ecosystem services assessment, financial costs and benefits associated with conservation of biodiversity, and sustainable use of biological resources. Pursuant to this decision, and with the financial assistance from the Government of The Netherlands, the Secretariat is organizing the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Workshop on Sustainable Use. The workshop will take place in Buenos Aires, at the kind invitation of the Government of Argentina, from 13 September to 16 September 2005.
Dear Madam/Sir, In paragraph 5 of decision VII/12 on sustainable use, the Conference of the Parties requested the Executive Secretary to convene a series of technical expert workshops on ecosystem services assessment, financial costs and benefits associated with conservation of biodiversity, and sustainable use of biological resources. Pursuant to this decision, and with the financial assistance from the Government of The Netherlands, the Secretariat is organizing the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Workshop on Sustainable Use. The workshop will take place in Buenos Aires, at the kind invitation of the Government of Argentina, from 13 September to 16 September 2005. I am pleased to inform you that further to Notification No. 2005-026 and 2005-068, the Secretariat has completed the selection of participants among government-designated experts. Representatives of competent intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations will also participate as observers. The list of selected experts is attached to this notification. They will be formally invited to participate in the workshop. Participants will be requested to present case studies on the sustainable use of biological resources in their home countries, bearing in mind that the workshop will focus on, but not limited to, agricultural ecosystems.
