Biodiversity Champion: World Public Health Nutrition Association (WPHNA)

Dear Madam/Sir, I am pleased to announce the pledge by the World Public Health Nutrition Association (WPHNA) to bring to the attention of its members (nutrition professionals in academia, private sector, civil society, UN agencies, government) the relationship between nutrition and biodiversity, thereby also advancing the Convention on Biological Diversity’s cross-cutting initiative on biodiversity for food and nutrition, the sustainable diets initiative, and contributing to the achievement of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets including targets 1, 4, 12, 13, 14, 18 and 19. Through its members, the WPHNA will address biodiversity conservation and sustainable use through advocacy, capacity development, research, and policy inputs in the field of human nutrition. The World Public Health Nutrition Association is an individual membership organization. Its members, from more than 50 countries, form a global network and have created a dynamic forum to exchange views to support each other in their work. The WPHNA welcomes members at all stages in their careers, and from all parts of the world, and is committed to advocacy, leadership and scholarship, strengthening the capacity for action, and providing a forum for discussion. It affirms that good health is a human right and follows ethical principles, including those of transparency, equity and respect. As a Biodiversity Champion, the WPHNA will integrate relevant issues of biodiversity into its aims and objectives, give a platform to the Aichi Biodiversity Targets through its journals and meetings, and encourage its members to champion the values of biodiversity to health and nutrition. Therefore, I invite all Parties and relevant organizations to cooperate with and support members of the initiative, and invite concerned individuals to join or contribute to it. For further information, you may contact Prof. Barrie Margetts, President of the World Public Health Nutrition Association at the following e-mail address: B.M.Margetts@soton.ac.uk. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.
