Notification 2015-036

Decisions of the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization: direct actions by Parties and other Governments and planned activities for the next biennium: Designation of national focal point on access and benefit-sharing (ABS-NFP)

Dear Madam/Sir, Reference is made to notification 2015-023 (http://www.cbd.int/doc/notifications/2015/ntf-2015-023-np-mop-dec-en.pdf) issued on 3 March 2015, regarding decisions of the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization. In this notification, Parties and non-Parties were invited to designate their national focal point on access and benefit-sharing (ABS-NFP) at their earliest convenience but no later than 1 April 2015. As of today, only a few Governments have designated their ABS-NFP. Parties and non-Parties are therefore kindly reminded to expedite the designation of their ABS-NFP before the deadline. Also, please note that for future liaison with the Secretariat, ABS-NFPs will replace current focal points of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Nagoya Protocol (ICNP FP). Therefore, in the absence of an official notification by 1 April 2015 indicating otherwise, as of this date, ICNP-FPs will automatically be assigned as ABS-NFP. Designation of the ABS-NFP, containing their name and contact details, should be submitted through an official letter addressed to the Executive Secretary by fax to +1 514 288 6588 or by e-mail as a scanned attachment to secretariat@cbd.int. I thank you for your continued cooperation and support to the Nagoya Protocol. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.

Executive Secretary
